Xtension Arcade Cabinet For The X-Arcade Tankstick Review

I've been wanting to put an arcade machine in my multipurpose theater/entertainment area for a while, however, cost was an issue, finding a unit that support the right mix of classic games was another, but the fear of maintenance and support was perhaps the biggest deterrent for me. I've been around enough arcades and busted joysticks to know that things break down. Building my own was the right solution, but until this cabinet and the X-Arcade Tankstick came along, it wasn't feasible. I've been following MAME for over a decade now, but playing through a keyboard and mouse, sitting down, just doesn't cut it! There's been so much community work on game Jukeboxes/frontends that creating an arcade experience out of MAME was a piece of cake. All you really need is just a PC, monitor and some speakers then you're good to go. This setup is customizable, I manage it just like a PC, the TankStick is build like its namesake, and if that's not enough, its got a lifetime warranty. Combined with the solid build of the Xtension cabinet, you've got something that you can keep and will keep you interested for a lifetime.
Pros and cons of this cabinet:
Pros:
1. Shipping was on-time, got it the first day of the delivery window, even in California.
2. Nicely, and efficiently packaged, nothing was damaged. Nice how things fit into 3 boxes so no one box was too heavy to manage.
3. It looks like Rec Room Masters have been continuously updating/grading their product since some of the instructions didn't quite match up, but it was for the better, i.e., black painted bolts vs. silver that required plastic caps.
4. Great woodwork quality, fit and finish. Extremely sturdy and substantial feeling without being too big or heavy.
5. Nice touches like a keyboard drawer and cable guides.
Cons:
1. Instructions need better pictures, they're too small to make out and the wording is not completely clear.
2. The front door doesn't fit completely flush. Also the magnetic latch causes the door to not fit tightly so it makes a little rattling noise.
3. The keyboard drawer is a bit flimsy, not something you would normally use and put too much weight on. Also, the edges of the wood that make up the drawer space are a bit sharp, so if you're not careful when sticking your hand into the drawer, you might get scraped.
4. Monitor fits nicely, but it's not angled high enough for tall people (I'm 6'2"), but perfect height for kids. Good thing the monitor I have has pretty good viewing angles, but there's definitely loss in picture quality when I stand straight up. It would be nice to include an adjustable mounting bracket, or at least room to fit one.
5. 22" monitor isn't big enough, especially since most are now 16:9 or 16:10 which is basically useless for classic games. Room for a bigger monitor would be great!
6. Plastic bezel is too flimsy, it would be nice if they had an all glass option.
Overall, I love this purchase. I already have friends wanting to buy one for themselves.
